How do I submit a media recording in Canvas ?

Sometimes, your teacher may ask you to make a recording to submit in Canvas. Canvas does have a media recording tool that you can use to make an audio/video recording or submit a recording that you made outside of Canvas. You can do this whether you are using a mobile device or a computer/Chromebook. See the step-by-step directions and video tutorials below. For steps to submit other types of files, view this help article

On a Mobile Device

  1. Go to the assignment to be submitted.
  2. Tap the "Submit Assignment" button and choose "Media Recording."
  3. If creating new audio or video, tap "Audio" or "Video" at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Press the red record button to begin your recording. Press the red stop button to end the recording.
  5. Tap the play button to watch your video. If you don't like it, tap "Retake." If you do like it, tap "Use Video."

On a Computer/Chromebook

  1. In your course, go to the assignment and click the "Submit Assignment" button.
  2. Click the "Record / Upload Media" button under the submission area.
  3. In the pop-up window, make sure the "Record Media" tab is selected (if you are submitting a recording you made previously, click the Upload Media tab instead).
  4. Click the "Mic" button to select which microphone you wish to use.
  5. Click the "Webcam" button to select which webcam you wish to use. For audio only, you can select the "No Video" option for "Webcam".
  6. Click "Start Recording" when you are ready to begin. This will start a countdown to begin recording. Click "Finish" when you are done.
  7. Click the play button to review the audio or video. If you like it,  click "Save". Otherwise, you can click "Start Over" to try again.
  8. Click "Submit Assignment" to submit.
Note: Adobe Flash Player Settings may appear to allow access to the microphone or webcam devices.
