How do I manage participants' audio and video during a Zoom session?

You can set adjust some Zoom audio/video settings prior to a session. There are also some settings that you can adjust on-the-fly during a session. Review the information below for details. 

Mute Participants Upon Entry

  1. Log in to https://zoom.us/
  2. Click SETTINGS in left sidebar.
  3. Choose SCHEDULE MEETING settings link in left sidebar.
  4. Toggle the MUTE PARTICIPANTS UPON ENTRY switch to mute all meeting attendees as they join your meeting.

Muting Participants During a Session

  1. During a Zoom Meeting the host or co-host(s) can mute or unmute all participants through the Manage Participants feature.

  2. If you want to keep your participants muted, select More and then uncheck Allow Participants to Unmute Themselves from the drop-down

  3. To mute or unmute specific participants during your meeting, select the Mute or Unmute button next to their name in the list.



Video Settings

During a Zoom Meeting,  the host or co-host(s) can use the Manage Participants feature to stop video for specific participants or ask them to start video. This is done manually per participant. Zoom Meeting does not have the option to start or stop video for all participants at once during a meeting.
  1. Select Manage Participants
  2. Select More next to a participant name in the list.

  3. Then select Stop Video.

  4. To request that a participant enable their video, select More next to their name in the list and click Ask to Start Video.
